Specialised Training on GIs for IP Advisors and Attorneys in Guwahati and New Delhi

Tuesday, December 20, 2016

Two events took place in India and almost 100 participants attended the IPC-EUI specialised training on GIs.

14 December 2016 Guwahati
20 December 2016 New Delhi

The PMT contracted one European GI expert to present the following topics to the Indian participants:

  1. the EU GI system, types of GIs, including aspects on control and quality standards
  2. GIs and their complementarity with other IP rights, such as trade marks and industrial designs

This activity was carried out in cooperation with the CGPDTM, who provided for one GI speaker from its GI Office branch of the CGPDTM in Chennai. The Indian expert presented not only the Indian GI system and the concept of ‘authorised user’ but he also shared his expertise with the audience on aspects related to GIs and notoriousness of GIs.

All presentations included practical examples and exercises so as to allow for and enhance proactive interaction with participants, who were offered the unique opportunity to learn and practice at the same time.

The survey's results demonstrate the success of the events because the topics covered were perceived as relevant and useful.

The events’ main objective was to enhance the capacity of the Indian productive sector to compete in different markets at local, regional, national or international level. The specific objective was that of further training and sharing experience with the Indian legal community, such as IP advisors and attorneys, to contribute to their capacity to provide expertise to the business community, and in particular, to GI producers.
