EUIPO Organised International Promotion of Indian GIs in South East Asia

Monday, June 5, 2017

From 31 May to 4 June 2017 the largest food and beverage trade fair in Asia, “THAIFEX-World of Food Asia,” took place in Bangkok, Thailand.

The IPC-EUI project, together with the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks (CGPDTM) and the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) of India, hosted ten selected Indian GI exhibitors as an action to promote the visibility of Indian and European GIs worldwide. The Project Management Team organised a series of GI dedicated information sessions and audio-visual content.

We are delighted to be able to count on the presence of Mr Jerome Pons, Head of Operations of the EU Delegation to Thailand, on the first day of the fair. The IPC-EUI stand was also honoured with the visit of Mr Tosapone, Director General of DIP Thailand (Department of Intellectual Property) and H.E. Mr Bhagwant Singh Bishnoi, the Ambassador of India to Thailand.

This event served as an excellent opportunity to promote the added value of traditional products in India. A selection of registered Indian GIs accepted EUIPO’s invitation to be present at the trade fair’s stand, namely:

  • Hyderabad Haleem
  • Kangra Tea
  • Mahabaleshwar Strawberry
  • Nashik Valley Wine
  • Navara Rice
  • Sindudurg and Ratnagiri Kokum,
  • Surumalai Hilll Banana
  • Turupathi Iaddu
  • Vazakullam Pinapple

Further efforts to support promotion activities of Indian GIs can be seen through a series of three documentary videos as follows:
